CONTAINING LINKS TO 1280 STORIES FROM THE NETWORKS' NIGHTLY NEWSCASTS
     COMMENTS: Mesopotamia Pot Pourri

The Iraq War was Story of the Day for the fourth weekday out of five this week, even though each network selected a separate angle. CBS' lead from the White House concerned a Republican proposal in the Senate that President George Bush be required to draw up plans to change his military strategy--but not necessarily to implement them. From the Pentagon, NBC chose a firefight in Baghdad between US commandos and local police unit, whose lieutenant they were trying to arrest on suspicion of ties to Iran's Quds Force commandos. ABC's Iraq story concerned draft plans to pull US forces out of Salahaddin and Diyala provinces--although its lead, for the third time this week, was given to Brian Ross. Ross' Exclusive showed videotape of al-Qaeda operations in the tribal zones along Pakistan's North West Frontier with Afghanistan.

I am still catching up from the Fourth of July vacation, so there will be no more blogging on today's news.
