CONTAINING LINKS TO 1280 STORIES FROM THE NETWORKS' NIGHTLY NEWSCASTS
COMMENTS: Full Court Press to Cover Japan’s Misery

The weekend allowed each network to assemble its team of correspondents in Japan to cover the aftermath of Friday's massive earthquake--now measured at Richter 9.0--and subsequent devastating tsunami. ABC led the way with a special edition--Disaster in the Pacific--and anchor Diane Sawyer on the scene in Sendai. NBC also gave its newscast special edition status, Disaster in Japan, although its anchor Brian Williams, like Katie Couric at CBS, stayed in New York City. Altogether the three networks devoted 86% of their combined newshole, 51 minutes, to this single story. NBC and CBS both led with the damage to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant complex. ABC led with anchor Sawyer's coverage of the plight of the survivors in Sendai.
